Artwork Requirements
ART REQUIREMENT #1
HIGH QUALITY B/W
Images should be submitted as black and white, camera-ready art at 300 DPI or higher resolution. This is necessary to achieve a clean stamp. For best results, please provide a vector-based file.
File extensions accepted:
.ai, .pdf, .eps, .svg, .png, .jpg, .tif, .psd
ART REQUIREMENT #2
COVERAGE AREAS
Avoid solid areas larger than ½”. Large, solid areas cause incomplete stamps when air gets trapped under the foil. Turning solid black into an stoked outline or adding texture fixes this in most cases. If you’re having trouble our art department can assist you.
ART REQUIREMENT #3
TEXT SIZE/COMPLEXITY
Text size should be 12 points or higher. To avoid letters bridging on to each other, select a font that is well-spaced between each character.
PLEASE OUTLINE YOUR FONTS!!!
ART REQUIREMENT #4
BRIDGING
Areas that are too small may “bridge” or fill in. Very fine lines in conjunction with solid areas can produce “cut through” from uneven distribution of stamping pressure.
ART REQUIREMENT #5
AVOID THE CENTER
Leave the center of the design blank or with very little line work. The sprue, located on the underside, center of a disc can cause drops outs due to an unevenness on the flight plate. We can not guarantee 100 perfection if your art has black crossing the center of the design.
“What is vector art, and why does it matter?”
Vector art is created using specialized software programs such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw. These programs use mathematical equations and geometric primitives (points, lines, and shapes) to create art that is clean, print-ready, and can be scaled infinitely without any loss of quality or readability.
Here’s an image illustrating the difference between raster and vector art. Notice how the raster image is fuzzy, blurry, and jagged, while the vector image is smooth and clean.
Raster Verses Vector
Raster graphics, such as photographs and files created in Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and other raster editing programs, can be used for some screen printing applications, such as printing one-color pen and ink drawings. In most cases, especially with art such as logos, we will need vector art to achieve the proper print.
Improved
Is my art vectorized?
One way to tell if your art is in vector format is by checking the file type. Vector art is usually created in Adobe Illustrator and is commonly saved with certain file extensions. The four most common vector file extensions are .ai, .pdf, .eps and.svg.
However, just because a file is saved in one of these formats does not mean that it is truly vector art. Raster files can be opened in Adobe Illustrator and re-saved with a vector file extension, but without recreating the art using the vector editing tools there’s no benefit to this action. Only art originally created in a vector editing program is truly vector art.
So, how do you really know if your art file is a vector art file? Open the file and use the selection tool on an area within the art. You might see something like this. If you see vector nodes, congratulations! Your art is vectorized.
What if i can't get a vector file?
Don't worry! As long as your image is high quality our art department can help you convert your jpg or png to a stampable! If your image is low quality and requires extra attention we can in most cases make something work for you for an additional $50 design fee.
